The history of office chairs

The first person who designed an office chair was Chares Darwin. He needed a chair that would help him move around the room quickly to observe his specimens. However, Office chairs really became popular for other reasons. In the middle of the nineteenth century, traditional family businesses stared to expand. People needed to hire additional staff who could take care of the paper work, and those people had to spend a lot of time sitting in offices. That was when chairs on casters became popular. Office employees could move from one spot to another really quickly without having to stand up. Nineteenth century office chairs were a bit different from the chairs we"re using today. First of all, they were almost entirely made of wood, which, as you can probably imagine, wasn"t very comfortable. They were also not very ergonomic, which means that the designers did not take the features of human body into account. The office chairs that are used nowadays can be adjusted to your body which helps prevent lower back pain, circulation problems or fatigue. They"re also covered in comfortable materials so that you don"t have to suffer because of the hard surface. As you can see, they seem to be quite safe, but this doesn"t mean that sitting is healthy in general.
